Born and raised in Nepal, Surya Raj Giri grew up surrounded by the rich aromas and vibrant flavors of traditional Himalayan cooking. His journey to Amsterdam over 25 years ago was driven by a dream — to bring the authentic taste of home to a new land.

After years of perfecting his craft and understanding the culinary landscape of the Netherlands, Surya founded The Himalayan Kitchen in 2014 in Amsterdam's vibrant Kinkerbuurt neighborhood. What started as a small family restaurant has grown into a beloved local gem, where every dish is prepared with the same care and passion that Surya learned in the kitchens of Nepal.

Surya's cooking philosophy is simple: use the freshest ingredients, honor traditional recipes, and cook with love. Every spice blend is carefully prepared, every dish is made to order, and every guest is treated like family.
